Important note: Over the years, the ECAM 22.140.B has undergone changes, not always favorable. Thus, the bean hopper was previously semi-transparent and equipped with a sealing gasket, whereas it is now completely opaque and without hermetic seal. Result: sound insulation is less effective and the beans are less protected from oxidation.

Thecoffee machineThe Magnifica offers two coffee recipes, espresso and long coffee, directly accessible from the front panel of the machine. It is also possible to prepare these drinks in double format thanks to its generous extraction chamber, which helps optimize preparation time. However, following tests, it was observed that this double extraction tends to offer lower quality compared to individual preparation.

The 22.140.B bean-to-cup espresso machine features a ground coffee chute, allowing you to diversify your extractions, for example with decaffeinated coffee. You can also use the basic plastic-coated steam wand to prepare milk-based drinks, using a stainless steel pitcher containing fresh milk, whether of animal or plant origin.

This machine proves intuitive to use, and you can adjust the intensity of your coffee via the dial positioned on the front panel. This control allows you to modify the dose of coffee that will be ground for each preparation.

The machine features a DeLonghi steel grinderadjustable across 13 levels. It is recommended to start your extractions at level 5, then refine or coarsen the grind according to the desired result. Note that the result in cup will only be noticeable after approximately 3 extraction cycles.

Achieving quality coffee extraction with the 22.140.B

The DeLonghi Magnifica delivers quality coffee, in accordance with rigorous testing conducted. It ensures harmonious extraction with a smooth crema. Although the extraction temperature is slightly excessive, it does not alter the coffee aromas. However, to obtain a full-bodied and velvety coffee, it is recommended to select maximum intensity, i.e. 13 grams (baristas generally limit themselves to 10 grams). It should be noted that this higher quantity may lead to increased coffee consumption

Regarding the steam wand, performance proved insufficient. The milk was difficult to emulsify and the result resembled heated milk more than dense foam. If steam wand quality is a determining criterion for you, it is preferable to consider the evolution of the Magnifica, the DeLonghi 22.127.B, which benefits from an optimized steam wand.

Maintenance phases of the DeLonghi Magnifica S coffee machine

Regular maintenance of your coffee machine is essential to ensure optimal extraction and preserve coffee flavor. Here are the key maintenance steps:

• The filtration :If you use tap water, the use of a filter cartridge is recommended to eliminate limescale particles and improve water taste. The cartridge should be changed every 2 to 3 months depending on your water hardness.
• The descalingEven equipped with a filtration system, this machine requires regular descaling to eliminate limescale deposits that can accumulate on the thermoblock. Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines to perform this maintenance.A dose of descaler is included with the device.
• The cleaning : The brew group retains oils and coffee residues during extractions. On this model, the brew group is removable: simply rinse it under hot water (without excessive temperature) once a week, let it dry completely, then reinstall it on the turned-off device. The drip tray is dishwasher safe.
• The milk system : If your machine has a steam wand for making milk-based drinks, it is essential to purge this wand before and after each use. Also use a specialized cleaning product to eradicate bacteria and preserve the hygiene of the wand.
