Retro design for a successful espresso

Elektra designed the Nivola model to offer a machine with a strong character sporting a 50s look, dear to its designer, engineer Andrea Fregnan. The Nivola model has undeniable aesthetic charm, but above all many quality components allowing it to extract espressos.

Thanks to the 57 mm single filters and the brass portafilter, extraction approaches professional standards, you will be able to determine the grind and the perfect dose to obtain a quality beverage, provided you pair an espresso grinder with this Elektra Nivola machine.

The Nivola machine was designed to be intuitive. To this end, Elektra positioned all controls at the front, via a chrome dial.

This dial allows you to activate or stop your extraction, but also to launch steam mode in order to enjoy the wand for making your milk froth.

This steam wand is made of ABS and designed to facilitate milk froth preparation, by air intake, it will inject steam and air into the pitcher, and your milk froth will be obtained in no time.

The Elektra Nivola espresso machine features a beautiful polished aluminum body, mirror effect, with a dome surrounding the plexiglass cup warmer. The grilles are made of non-corrosive stainless steel, the boiler and portafilter are brass, while the portafilter handle is authentic bakelite.

Indicator lights for clear information

The Nivola has an indicator light that signals information such as water shortage or machine heating.

The water reservoir holds 1.5 litre, allowing for numerous extractions, and heating is provided by a brass boiler which has the notable advantage of maintaining water at ideal temperature while better resisting the harmful effects of limescale.

We nevertheless recommend using filtered water or a filtration cartridge to maximize the longevity of your appliance and ensure optimal taste quality in the cup.

Our opinion:

Notes : For this price range, a 58 mm group would have been appreciated. The clock remains of little use; a pressure gauge would have been a significant plus.

Expert analysis  : The Nivola by Elektra is an undeniable visual success for retro design enthusiasts like myself. Performance-wise, the extraction quality is satisfactory provided you pair it with a grinder capable of delivering appropriate grind size. Despite its simplicity of use, single spouts require a fine grind and rigorous dosing; once mastered, it will fully meet your expectations. The steam wand does the job without allowing latte art: its assisted operation produces easy-to-obtain milk foam, but relatively dense. In my opinion, replacing the quartz clock with a pressure gauge would have added real value during extraction.
