The Hario Coffee Siphon is a vacuum coffee maker (operating on the same principle as the Cona coffee maker) originating from Japan.
The siphon, with its glowing flame and rising steam, adds a spectacular aspect to coffee preparation, captivating customers seeking both a taste and visual experience. Beyond the authentic spectacle offered by the vacuum extraction process, this method delivers a particularly aromatic and highly delicate coffee. Hario siphons stand out for their excellence. They are designed AND produced in Japan.
Unlike drainers (equipping Cona ), the Hario filter is made of fabric. This results in more effectively filtered coffee, offering beautiful smoothness on the palate and free of residue.
The cylindrical brewing chamber maximizes the contact surface between ground coffee and water, allowing more precise control of extraction. HARIO syphons enjoy international renown and are used by the most eminent champions.

Heat the desired amount of water to a temperature close to boiling (90-95°C) then transfer it to the lower chamber.
- Add the ground coffee (14-20g) to the upper chamber.
- Reinstall the upper chamber checking the seal.
- Position the burner under the device.
- As soon as the water begins to rise, stir gently to thoroughly saturate the ground coffee.
- Once all the water has transferred to the upper chamber, slightly reduce the flame and stir again.
- After 60 to 90 seconds of infusion, remove the burner: the coffee will then descend.
- Once the operation is complete, carefully remove the upper chamber.
- Pour and enjoy :)
The choice of alcohol for the siphon burner is of paramount importance!
Ethanol, or ethyl alcohol: little or no odor
Denatured alcohol (modified), available at chemists: low or no odor
Isopropyl alcohol (propan) should be avoided due to its repulsive odor and insufficient calorific power.
Do not use the Hario Technica coffee maker on a domestic gas stove.
The Hario House (meaning "King of Glass") is a Japanese company specializing in tableware since 1921. Hario quickly gained notoriety thanks to its teapots and its famous Vacuum coffee maker also called "Syphon".
Hario® is recognized by the greatest baristas as being the best 'filter method' for tasting coffee: the firm has naturally established itself as THE greatest quality standard.
